Literacy Volunteers of Lee County (LVLC) provides adult literacy programs in several ways:
- Individual Matches: one volunteer tutor is matched with one adult student. They meet weekly for at least one hour in a public place (library, book store, etc.).
- Small Groups: one volunteer tutor meets weekly with 2-10 adult students. They meet in libraries, churches, etc.
- Workplace Literacy: volunteer tutors meet weekly with employees of a local business or gated residential community at the work site. LVLC provides the tutors or, in the case of residential communities, residents are trained to tutor the employees of their community.
- Community Partnerships: LVLC works with local nonprofits, churches, etc., to provide adult literacy tutoring at the parthner's site.
- GED: an adult student meets with a tutor to study for the GED test(only for adult literacy students).
- US Citizenship: an adult student meets with a tutor to study for the US Citizenship test (only for adult literacy students).
- Financial Literacy Classes: There is a new financial literacy program that is being offered by Literacy Volunteers of Lee County. This new financial literacy program is for adult students to develop the skills and knowledge to help them successfully manage their money. The classes are free, and they are designed to improving the adult’s financial situation at home. The classes will begin June 28, 2011 at our East Fort Myers Office, which is located 4162 Palm Beach Boulevard. Please sign up or contact us if you are interested in being a student!
